Over 80 judoka from across Britain and Europe came together for an exciting day’s action at the famous Stoke Mandeville Stadium for the British Judo Special Needs Championship on Saturday 26 August.

Competitors ranged from club judoka to international athletes from the likes of Germany and the Netherlands along with members of the Great Britain Special Needs team, a number of who scooped a range of medals at the recent Special Needs European Open in Netherlands.

The judoka were all led through a thorough warm up before the action got started on the mat. Amongst the field, amputee judoka Jamie Gane (Basingstoke) won his first silver medal.

Kerry Tansey, BJA Disability Lead said “It was truly enlightening to see so many new faces embracing the SN competition pathway and taking on the challenge that new environments can pose to some athletes.”

“The development of so many of you from one year to the next is remarkable and encouraging to see that you and your coaches are working hard to develop your judo.”

“Big shout out goes to the hard working Officials and Referee’s who make the event a fantastic experience for all who take part and your families and coaches to watch.”
