Two GB kata pairs compete at European Kata Championships

The European Kata Championships held in Rijeka, Croatia saw two GB kata pairs take to the mat, and one GB kata judge to support the tournament.

Saturday morning the competition started early, Victoria (Tori) and Lisa Cleevely were on Mat 3 and delivered a solid technical execution of Ju-no-kata. After lunch Ricky Cleevely and Richard Bannister took to Mat 3 and delivered a good, dynamic execution of Kodokan Goshin-jutsu.

Overall it was 6th place for Ricky and Richard, and 11th place for Tori and Lisa.  GB judge Sean Nuttall spent the weekend judging Nage-no-kata, Ju-no-kata and Kodokan Goshin-jutsu alongside other EJU and IJF kata judges.

The team took every chance of mat time when available to evaluate the effectiveness of their kata and put into practice points researched through study.  They then spent 2 days taking part in EJU seminars for Kodokan Goshin-jutsu, Ju-no-kata and Katame-no-kata, and look forward to bringing back what they have learnt.

British Judo are proud of everyone’s achievements.
