The Tour of Britain arrived in Camberley last weekend and Commonwealth Games gold medallists Owen Livesey and Danny Williams, who are based at the local judo club, were waiting to welcome them.

The race has been running for 11 years and sees some of the world’s top cyclists cover a journey of 220km. This is stage seven in what is the longest and most challenging route of the race.

Once the race got underway at Camberley, the riders flew through Surrey Heath, visiting Heatherside, Deepcut, Frimley Green and Mytchett before leaving the borough before heading into Sussex, where it finished in Brighton.

There were a host of activities in Camberley to celebrate the national event and Owen and Danny, who train at the Camberley judo club in the town, were there to help celebrate and raise judo’s profile.

Owen Livesey said: “There was a brilliant atmosphere in Camberley town, it was buzzing with spectators that had come to see the race start in Camberley. I was surprised and honoured to be asked to drop the start flag, and I was happy to help Camberley town and Surrey Heath with such an exciting event right on our doorstep!”
