Metro Judo Club in conjunction with the British Judo Association is hosting a workshop based around the preparation of young judo players of the future.

World Champion and Olympian Tomoko Fukumi, World and European medallist Joyce Heron (6th Dan) and the BJA’s Education and Training Manager Colin McIver, 9th Dan and British Judo Technical Director will all be hosting a revalidation event on 28 February 2015.

The Greenwich based club is famous for producing Olympic silver medallist Gemma Gibbons and this event is open to all BJA coaches and young players from 11 years and above who hold a Yellow Belt or above in the hope that they may follow in her footsteps.

Gary Wells said: “We are lucky to have the expertise of some of the best coaches, and it will be a very worthwhile event.

“Not only is this an opportunity to learn from the best, it is also a chance to support a local judo club. The workshop will be of interest to all levels of coach but will be especially relevant for coaches who work with aspiring young players at the early stages of their competitive career and it will count as one revalidation event.”

Following the workshop there will be an update on the technical objectives of the BJA with particular emphasis on coach education and gradings.

The event takes place between 10am and 2pm at the Thomas Tallis School in Blackheath. It comprises of a four hour revalidation event. Coaches and players should check in from 9.30am. There will be a workshop between 10am and 12pm.

The cost for coaches is £15/players £5 each all payable to the Metro Judo club.
