Tokyo set to close the International Judo Season
The IJF World Tour heads to Tokyo this weekend in what will be the final event of the year. The Tokyo Grand Slam will see two GB judoka in action as Lucy Renshall and Lele Nairne compete in the -63kg and -57kg categories, respectively.
Renshall, who competes on Sunday, makes her return to competition after suffering a broken nose at the Zagreb Grand Prix in August. Entering as 5th seed, Renshall has an opening round bye before facing the winner of the opening round contest between Kirari Yamaguchi (JPN) and Himanshi Tokas (IND).
Competing on the opening day, Nairne has been drawn in Pool A and will face Yudelsis Jamez-Romero (ROU) in the opening round for the right to face number one seed, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard (CAN) in round two.
Once the event has concluded on Sunday, the stage is handed over to the IBSA Grand Prix.
European Championship bronze medallist Evan Molloy will compete in the J2-90kg category whilst in the J1-90kg category, recent UK Sport PLx award winner, Dan Powell makes his return from a knee injury that ruled him out of the World Games.
Miles Solomon competes in his second IBSA Grand Prix event, after making his debut at the IBSA Baku Grand Prix in September.
Jack Hodgson and Chris Skelley, who also picked up awards at the UK Sport PLx Awards this week, will both compete in the J2+90kg category.
European Championship bronze medallist, Kirsten Taylor will compete in the J2+70kg category.
At the age of 50, dual Paralympian, Darren Harris makes a return to the tatami.
