Tickets Now Available For George Kerr’s 80th Birthday Celebration
Join us for an evening of judo history in honour of President Dr George Kerr CBE 10th Dan to celebrate his 80th birthday and his monumental contribution to judo over the years.
Tickets are now available for the celebration taking place at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, The Caldedonian, Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH1 2AB on Friday 8th September.
Individual tickets are priced at £75.00 each with a table of 10 costing £700.00.
Kerr has been President of British Judo since 2001. His Judo career started in Edinburgh in 1945 and was awarded his black belt aged 15 and in 1957.
Kerr spent four years training in Japan and had considerable success as a player winning gold, silver and bronze medals at the European Championships as well as being crowned British Open Champion in 1966 and 1968. Kerr retired at the age of 31 to become a coach and was soon appointed National Coach to the Austrian team, coaching Peter Seisenbracher to two Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988.
Kerr became a British Judo Board Director in 1981 and before becoming Chairman in 1991. He has been involved with the British Olympic Association, European Judo Union and the International Judo Federation over many years.
In addition to many other accolades, in 2011 Kerr was awarded a CBE by HRH The Queen as well as being presented with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, by the Emperor of Japan. In 2013 he was inducted to the IJF Hall of Fame and was also presented with an Lifetime Achievement Award by the IJF in Paris.
