Team Judo at it’s Finest for Eastern Senior Team League

The 3rd meeting of the Senior Team League took place last weekend at the Breckland Leisure Centre, Thetford.

It offered an excellent example of team judo at it’s finest with some exciting match ups throughout the day.

At present there are two Mens Divisions and a Ladies Division. Last years teams received priority in the Division structure and subsequent division are made up on a first entered basis, so early entry was advised throughout.

Expertly led by Denise Oates last year, the Eastern Area held their third Anglian Judo Team League event with all divisions full on the day. A total of 18 teams took to the mat throughout the day.

Ryecroft Judo Club successfully defended their title in Division One as they edged out Kumo 3-2 with a vital victory at -81kg. Last years runners up, Kin Ryu, finished in the third spot and claimed the bronze medal. With prize money on offer throughout, it added every incentive for each contest.

The now fully formed Division Two was won by a very strong Highland Budokan team featuring some strong GB players as they remained undefeated throughout the day. Luton claimed the silver medal with a single defeat on the day by the champions with Comberton finishing in the bronze medal position.

The Ladies league, also fully formed now, with six teams competing was also won by Highland Budokan as they pipped last years winners Comberton to the title.

The fourth Senior Team League will again be running in 2019 on 11th August, straight after the Eastern Area Open, in what is being described as their “Summer Feast from the East”.
