Team Announcement: Seven Players set for World Junior Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco
British Judo has today announced the team for the World Junior Judo Championships to be held in Marrakesh, Morocco from 16th-20th October.
Kelly Petersen-Pollard (-70kg) headlines a strong British Judo team that includes three European Junior medallists from the recent European Junior Championships that were held in Finland last month.
Recent European Junior Champion, Petersen-Pollard will head to Morocco ranked number 1 in the world junior rankings and will be hoping to become Britain’s first World Junior Champion since Karina Bryant won gold in Cali in 1998.
She is joined by bronze medallists from the European Junior Championships in Finland, Yasmin Javadian (-52kg) and Lachlan Moorhead (-81kg).
Sian Bobrowska (-48kg), Joshua Giles (-60kg), Henry Wakes (-66kg) and Jasmine Hacker-Jones (-52kg) are also selected in a strong British Judo team.
British Judo Elite Development Coach Colin Oates said: ‘Looking forward to the World Junior Championships, we have selected a strong British Judo team. The recent European Junior Championships were fantastic, while we had a small team of 6, to take 3 medals was a phenomenal achievement by the athletes. We know the World’s will be a much higher level of competition, but our athletes are more than capable of mixing it with the best and producing a performance they can be proud of.
We are now into the final stages of preparations and I am excited to go to Morocco. At this age and stage all we expect from the athletes is for them to stretch themselves and break through their highest ceiling to find out what they are capable off.’
