A great initiative from Simply Judo in Northern Ireland

Simply Judo have been running a brand new integration initiative in West Belfast since January 2017, the new club is called 'Simply Judo Connects'. Simply Judo Connects is an exciting project set up by our Head Coaches Mark Montgomery & Scott Mayne with help from 3 of our other coaches Alan Kerr, Ryan Mawhinney & Joe Millar. Our initiative aims to connect with the refugee children who attend St Pauls Primary School and their families. These refugee families have been placed in West Belfast from Somalia, Sudan, China, Congo and Nigeria and are now integrating with children from the local community using the Sport of Judo as the vehicle. We teach Judo to these children every ‪Monday night‬ in St Pauls Primary School, Belfast. The Classes have now reached a total of 60 children (30 refugees & 30 from Belfast, the Philippines, Latvia, Cyprus, Italy and Portugal). Thanks to the hard work of our Coaches and Sport NI, we have secured enough funding through the Department of Communities, to purchase Judo Suits, Judo Licences and 3 Belt Examinations for each of the 60 Children, as well as a set of judo mats to practice on. Well done to all of the children who have taken up the sport, we hope that you are enjoying learning new skills and techniques in a failure free environment and most importantly having as much fun as we are on the mat every week! We would like to thank the following, because without them this wouldn't be possible. Thank you to SportNI for their continued support and sourcing funding, the Department of Communities for financing the project, St Pauls Primary School for the free use of their facilities, Blitz Sports (Suits) and AVA Sports (Mats). #Judo #WeAreJudo #SimplyJudo #SimplyJudoConnects #SportNI #AvaSports #BlitzSports #CommunitiesNI
