British judoka took home four medals from the 2015 Lisbon European Judo Open on Saturday 10 October as Amy Livesey, Megan Fletcher, Sarah Adlington and Lucy Renshall all found their way onto the rostrum.

In the -63kg category Livesey produced impressive judo winning two of her fights by ippon on her way to a semi-final contest with her British teammate Renshall, who had defeated 2008 Olympic bronze medallist Ketleyn Quadros in her first fight.

The contest between the two British judoka was a tight affair with Livesey taking the win by two shidos to three. In the final however she was unable to get the better of Jennifer Wichers (Netherlands) missing out by shido while Renshall came back to beat Hannah Martin (USA) and take bronze.

In the -70kg Megan Fletcher came back from a tough few months to grab a silver medal losing out to Laura Vargas Koch (Germany) in the final. Fletcher, who represented Team GB at the European Games earlier this year, was delighted to get back on the rostrum.

“I was really happy to be back on the podium as the last few months it hadn’t been coming together at the tournaments, which was really hard. I’ve had a really great block of training in Bath and Germany over the summer and that’s been a great help getting ready for the autumn.

“I feel really good on the mat at the moment which is a great feeling. Next for me is the Paris camp then I’m going to Australia, China and Korea. The next aim for me is to medal in the Grand Prix’s which I feel is possible I just need to keep moving forward like I have in the last few months.”

There was another silver medal for Sarah Adlington in the +78kg category who had won her first two contests by ippon and yuko respectively. In the final against Carolin Weiss (Germany), Adlington was a yuko up before being caught for ippon in the final minute to just miss out on a gold medal.
