Jasmine Hacker-Jones was the star performer for Team GB’s judoka on day two of 2017 Gyor EYOF on Wednesday 26 July.

The Maesteg Judo Club judoka finished seventh with some strong performances throughout the day. Hacker-Jones made a good start at -52kg winning inside the opening minute against Poland’s Katarzyna Kolbusz. In the quarter-finals she lost a close match against Manon Monnard (SUI) by two waza-ari to one.

Dropping into the repechage, Hacker-Jones made up for any disappointment with another dominant performance as she saw off Zuzana Janiczkova with little over 90 seconds on the clock. However, she was unable to continue that run as Hungary’s Szofi Ozbas proved too strong.

Judo Club Osaka’s Archie Platt also impressed as he finished just outside the top eight. The -66kg judoka’s waza-ari was enough to see off Selim Berisha (KOS) before coming through a tough golden score contest against Adrian Sulca (ROU). Platt forced Sulca into a poor drop attack two minutes and forty seconds into golden score which led to a third shido being given against the Romanian.

Abdul Malik Umayev (BEL) proved too strong in the quarter-finals and Duniel Nuriev (EST) ensured that Platt was unable to progress into the repechage final.

Oliver Park (Hibari-Kan Judo Club) also missed out on the top eight as he lost out to Yair Elkind (ISR) first up. Getting a second chance in the -60kg repechage, Park made a good start beating Poland’s Tomasz Zielski before losing out in golden score to Khetag Basaev (RUS).

Imogen Walls (Sportif Melrose) was unable to progress out of her pool, losing to France’s Leonie Gonzalez.

Thursday 27 July will see Josie Steel (-57kg), Holly Jones (-63kg), Ryan Turnbull (-73kg) and Aaron Miller (-81kg) in action with the competition starting from 1000 Local time (0900 UK time) with live coverage via EJU.net and gyor2017.hu. Follow @BritishJudo on Twitter for competition updates
