Seventh for Fletcher in Qingdao
Megan Fletcher’s seventh place was the highlight for British judoka on the second day of the Qingdao Grand Prix on Saturday 21 November.
Fletcher (-70kg) started her day with a good win over Esther Stam (GEO) who had recently won silver at the Tashkent Grand Prix. The British judoka scored yuko to see off her opponent and advance to the next round.
Her next opponent was the former World bronze medallist Seongyeon Kim (KOR) and it proved to a hard fought affair with a single shido to Fletcher’s name dropping her into the repechage.
Abu Dhabi Grand Slam bronze medallist Katarzyna Klys (POL) was Fletcher’s next match-up and she proved too strong scoring for both waza-ari and yuko to take the contest.
Tom Reed (-81kg) lost to world number 5 Sergio Toma (UAE) in the second round after being scored for ippon in the last minute of the fight.
In the -73kg category Patrick Dawson and Jan Gosiewski both went out in their first contests to Andrea Regis (ITA) and Denis Iartcev (RUS) respectively.
Gemma Gibbons (-78kg), Sarah Adlington (+78kg), Andy Burns (-90kg) and Frazer Chamberlain (-90kg) are all in action on Sunday 22 November from 2AM GMT with the final block live on ippon.tv and follow @BritishJudo on Twitter for all the end of the day results.
