Ealing Judo Club took a youthful 12-strong team to the Northern Ireland Open, a home country open ranking points event, and produced a stunning seven-medal haul.

In the junior section England Squad member Harkirat Sekhon won all her contests to win the -48kg category while Portugal Junior European Cup bronze medallist Nekoda Davis achieved the same success in the -57kg field.

Fellow junior Hanna Toogood took bronze in the -70kg category while Daniel Woodhouse finished in fifth-place at -81kg.

In the senior section Harkirat Sekhon and Nekoda Davis double their gold medal tally with a string of fine displays.

Nekoda reigned supreme in a category which featured 2008 GB World Cup silver medallist Sophie Johnstone, 2011 Spanish European Cup bronze medallist Stephanie Inglis and multiple-time home country open medallist Kerry Ford.

The returning Jerome Robinson-Reid won the -81kg field, which featured Olympic Test Event judoka Sebastian Nadal, while Lukasz Czyewski took seventh-place in the same category and junior Julia Scardone impressively fought her way to fifth-place.

In the Masters section John Hough took fifth-place in the -73kg category.

On Sunday, in the 9-11 age band, Blake Gulaidi-Barber took silver at -34kg and cadet Omar Mansouri finished in seventh-place at -50kg.

Ealing Judo head coach Jo Crowley said: “Nekoda Davis fought excellently against seasoned senior British international opposition. It was an outstanding result for her and a very welcome one as she heads off to the Italian Junior European Cup this weekend with the England Team.

“Our third senior gold of the event went to Jerome Robinson-Reid, who has only recently returned to competition at this level. We were lucky enough to find a photo opportunity with former World Champion and one-time British coach Loretta Cusack, who had encouraged and supported both athletes and coaches throughout the event.” 

Next up for Ealing Judo Club are the Italian and Lithuanian Junior European Cups, the British Open and the London International Open.
