Rotherham Judoka pair meet the Mayor and Mayoress

Two judokas, Paddy License from Ryecroft Judo Club and Dan Jeffries from Miramar Judo Club, were recently invited to their local town hall to be inducted by the Mayor of Rotherham Councillor John Foden, as junior ambassadors.

The two boys recently took gold and silver in the same -60kg weight category at the British Championships for 10,11 and 12 year olds hosted by Samurai Judo Club in Kidderminster.

Due to a last minute change in weight categories, with the +55kg being split into -60kg and +60kg there was was a shortage of a set of medals.

And Paddy and Dan’s group drew the short straw being presented with a set of samurai medals and the real ones were to follow in the post.

However, when the Mayor heard this, he was more than happy to present them with their medals.

Paddy travels to Ryecroft in Beeston, Nottingham on a weekly basis to train under coach Ian Oliver.

Dan trains at Miramar Judo Club in Rotherham under coach Andy Parton.

Both boys began their judo careers at Rotherham Tigers Judo Club, training under judo Legend Keith “Tiger” Brown.
