Respectable finishes for Great Britain at Grand Slam
Colin Oates and Sally Conway both took home solid seventh place finishes at the Tyumen Grand Slam this weekend.
Oates lost out by two penalties to one in the repechage against Denis Lavrentiev of Russia.
He lost the contest before this against home judoka Anzaur Ardanov but it was his first ippon win against Elio Verde of Italy which counted in the end.
In the repechage she Sally was beaten by Fei Chen of China on penalties. It had started so well for Conway as she beat Maria Bernabeu of Spain by ippon but she then she lost to Seongyeon Kim of South Korea by yuko in the next round before the repechage defeat.
Chris Sherrington (+100kg) suffered an early exit losing to Sven Heinle of Germany
