Pre-Cadet and Cadet 2019 British Championships – Ones to watch
With the British Championships less than one day away, we have a look at the ones to watch this weekend at the EIS, Sheffield when the best in young British judo talent compete to be crowned British Champion.
Cadet Girls
Emma Nunn, the 2018 British Champion at -40kg, moves up to the -44kg category where she will be hoping to claim another British title.
2018 British Championship bronze medallist and 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist Ella Hampson leads the -48kg entries. She will be closely challenged by Commonwealth Championship bronze medallist Summer Shaw.
Mae Bostock who was gold medallist at the Commonwealth Judo Championships at -48kg moves up to -52kg this weekend. Her main competition will come in the form of British Judo Cadet International Niamh Southgate who was silver medallist at Cadet and Senior level at the Commonwealth Judo Championships.
European Youth Olympic Festival and European Cadet Championship representative Isobel Kitchen and Cadet Commonwealth Judo medallist silver medallist Ellie Morris lead the -57kg entries.
In the -63kg category, all 4 medallists from the Cadet Commonwealth Judo Championships are set to compete. Gold medallist Holly Devall, silver medallist Katelyn Cox and bronze medallists Roxanne Proctor and Ellie Gilbert.
Commonwealth Judo Champion Gwen Lloyd leads the -70kg entries, she will face strong competition to be crowned British Champion by the bronze medallists Grace Tolley and Karis Haughton-Brown.
2018 British Cadet Champion Cordelia Gregory leads the entries at +70kg.
Cadet Boys
2018 -46kg British Championship silver medallist and bronze medallist at this year’s Commonwealth Judo Championships Ethan Steele leads the entries at the -50kg.
Lewis Fryer was British Champion in 2018 at -46kg, this year he contests the -55kg after taking silver at the Commonwealth Championships at -50kg. Competition to be crowned British Champion will come from Dinari Dawkins, Commonwealth Judo Championship bronze medallist.
Commonwealth Judo Championship bronze medallist Harry Cox leads a large -66kg category.
David Sommerville and Caleb Drysdale lead the -73kg entries. Sommerville was 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist while Drysdale was silver medallist at the 2018 British Championships.
Sam Naughton, the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist, leads the entries for the -81kg category.
Gregor Miller and Jake McKenna are the stand out names in the -90kg category. Miller was bronze medallist at this year’s Commonwealth Judo Championships while McKenna took bronze at last year’s British Championships.
2018 British Championship bronze medallist Harrison Burns and 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championship bronze medallist, Shayden Walters head the -90kg category.
Pre-Cadet Girls
Amelia Alder was British Champion in 2018 at -36kg, this year she was bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Judo Championships at -40kg and will be hoping to become British Champion at -40kg this weekend.
Kenady Raine was British Champion in 2018 at -40kg. She now contests the -48kg category and was Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist earlier this year. Competition will likely come from Lola Hodson who was bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Judo Championships.
Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist at -52kg Mia Goode, steps up to the -57kg category this weekend.
Commonwealth Championship bronze medallist Nicole Wood and 2018 British Championship silver medallist Gracie Wilson lead the -63kg entries.
Alanna Hopkins, Commonwealth Judo Championship bronze medallist, leads the entries at the -70kg category.
Pre-Cadet Boys
Freddie Egleton will be looking to improve upon the silver medal he won at last years British Championships in the -34kg category. He will face competition from the two bronze medallists from this year’s Commonwealth Judo Championships, Callum Woodham and Tristan Walters.
Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist Ronnie Berry and bronze medallist Laurence Hill lead the -38kg category.
Kajus Semeta, Commonwealth Judo Championship silver medallist, leads the entries for the -42kg category.
The gold and silver medallists from this year’s Commonwealth Judo Championships, Finlay Strang and Kyras Chambers-Edutie headline the -46kg category.
Ross McWatt will be hoping to add a British Championship medal to the bronze he won at the Commonwealth Judo Championships earlier this year in the -50kg category. While Eden Heffernan, silver medallist at the Commonwealth Judo Championships leads the -66kg entries.

Cadet Girls – Sunday 1st December 2019: 07:30hrs – 08:30hrs EIS, Sheffield Badminton Hall
Pre Cadet Boys – Sunday 1st December 2019: 10:00hrs – 11:00hrs EIS, Sheffield Badminton Hall
Competition starts: 09:30hrs on both days
