Following UK Sports funding announcement in 2020 for the Paris Cycle, British Judo made the difficult decision to reduce its staffing across its World Class Performance Programme for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic cycle.

This resulted in two members of the coaching team to voluntarily step down and one coach being made redundant.

In Sep 2021, post Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, a restructure of the World Class Performance Programme followed which included the recruitment of two full-time coaches for each of the Men and Women’s programmes based at the British Judo National Training Centre. Additionally, we advertised and recruited 19 GB Home Support Coaches to provide support to the Men and Women’s programmes as well as commit to our GB Elite Coach Development programme.

However, following UK Sport’s announcement of additional funding being made available to British Judo in December 2021, thanks to an increase by the Government Comprehensive Spending Review following the Tokyo Olympic Games, we are now in a position to add to our current coaching team.

British Judo has advertised and will be appointing a National Training Centre Coach, on a part-time basis, to support the delivery of the Men and Women’s Paris Olympic and Paralympic Training Programmes when the coaches are attending international competition and global randori training camps.

This is an essential role to support the programme and provide respite to the current coaching staff. We will announce the new coach one the interview process has been completed and the individual appointed.
