One year to go until Glasgow hosts the European Championships

Today (9th April) marks just one year to go until the European Championships return to the UK, at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

The last couple of years have seen judo thrust into the limelight following the sport’s medal winning success at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games and the sport will take centre stage at this year’s Commonwealth Games also hosted in Glasgow.

The 2015 European Championships, taking place from 9-12 April, will see the best judoka in Europe descend on Scotland including world and Olympic champions, treating British fans to world-class judo. It will be the first time that Great Britain has hosted the event in 20 years.

The Emirates Arena also plays host to the annual Glasgow European Open, which this year sees some of the continent’s best female athletes go head-to-head on Saturday 4th October.

British Judo CEO, Andrew Scoular, said: “It’s exciting that the European Championships are now just one year away, especially as we have so much great judo to look forward to between now and then.

“Working with our partners Glasgow Life, EventScotland, UK Sport, JudoScotland and the EJU, we’re confident of hosting the best European Championships ever, with a spectator and athlete experience that will be second to none.

“Our events at the Emirates Arena, combined with the Commonwealth Games, give us a great platform to build on and I look forward to welcoming judo fans from across the UK and Europe to this great event.”

British Judo are offering fans the chance to get an exclusive 10% discount on tickets for the 2015 European Championships by pre-registering their interest at www.eurojudo2015.com. Tickets will be on sale later this year.
