Obituary: Ray Holmes a.k.a Budgie

It is with a heavy heart that we break the news that Ray Holmes a.k.a Budgie has died peacefully just before 8:30am on the morning of 24th March 2017.

Ray took up judo at the LJS back in the 1960s when he was in his early 20s and continue to practice at the Crawley Judo Club throughout the 1970s. He represented the Southern Area squad, taking part in national and international tournaments.

Although work commitments forced Ray to give up the sport in the late 1970s, he kept a keen interest in the sport and was the inspiration for this grandson to take up the sport.

Ray’s cremation service will be held on Tuesday 11th April 2017 at 3:00pm at St Richard’s Chapel, Surrey & Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Worth, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 3NQ.

Flowers and donations are kindly welcome. Cheques made payable to “Mind”, “Alzheimers Society” and “Parkinson’s UK”.

The service will be followed by a reception to celebrate and remember Ray’s life at Heathy Farm, Balcombe Road, Crawley, RH10 3NQ from 4:00pm onwards.
