Sadly Phil Davis passed away on the 1st May 2020, aged 92 years, after many years of poor health which was bravely born by him.
He was loved and cared for by his loving wife Ann.
Phil was born 30. 7.1927 at Northwich and he lived and worked in South London for many years as a professional photographer and judo instructor.
Phil attained his 3rd Dan in 1974. He was a BJA Referee, County Coach in 1963 and a Senior Examiner & Judge. He instructed at the well-loved London Judo Society and many schools and colleges.
Phil was a quietly spoken man who had a passion for judo, he was a perfectionist.
He enjoyed many hobbies including almost single-handedly building a house on an island on the Thames, playing the piano and weight training.
He was great friends with George Chew and Stan Fisackerly, to name a few was involved with coaching Brian Jacks.
It is sad to say goodbye to one of the excellent judo players who came from the very early days of judo and Dan grades of this country.
Sadly he will be missed by many including his wife and two sons. A kind and gentle man.
