Obituary: Pete Salsbury

British Judo is saddened to hear of the passing of Pete Salsbury on 3rd May following a long-term illness.

Pete was highly regarded in the judo community after starting his judo journey over 50 years ago.

Pete founded Jodan Judo Club, named after his eldest grandsons Joe and Danny, in 1987 and the club has produced 65 black belts and many, many more medals.

Speaking about his club before its closure earlier this year due to ill-health, Pete said “Jodan has been like a family over the years and I love all my students like they are my own.”

Pete’s legacy will continue through his amazing family and the many students that he has taught over the years, many of whom have become great coaches in their own right.

The thoughts of everyone at British Judo are with Pete’s family and friends at this difficult time.
