No medals for GB on last day of Cadet Europeans
Joy turned to disappointment for British judo on day three of the European Cadet Championships in Greece.
After the euphoria of Lulu Piovesana’s bronze medal on day two, all the British judokas made early exits on the final day.
Only Seb Potter (-81kg) progressed to the repechage, having lost to Ukranian Sergiy Krivach by ippon in the first round.
Potter’s luck did not improve in the repechage as he lost again by ippon, this time to Hungary’s Bence Erenyi.
Jamal Petgrave (-81kg) battled hard against Tony Persehais of France before losing out 2-1 on shidos, while Lauren Hawkins (-70kg) lost out to by ippon to another French judoka, Juliette Tarting.
Matt Divall, GB Leader for the event said: “The championships are over for another year and the GB team finished with two bronzes, a seventh and a ninth place.
“A tough event so this was to be expected, but lots of good judo on show and a lot of tactical moves. Lots to work on but on the whole, the whole team aren’t far away.”
