Neyland Judo Club trio take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK

Three judoka from Pembrokeshire’s Neyland Judo Club have teamed up to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK on the 23 June 2012.

The challenge involves climbing Britain’s three highest peaks in under 24 hours as the group aim to reach the summit of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Neyland Judo Club’s Mark Guest is leading the team’s challenge and in addition to his fellow judoka, will be joined by work colleagues from Dyfed Powys Police.

Mark believes his experience in judo stands him in good stead for the Three Peaks.

“Some people see judo as an individual sport. I don’t see this at all. Being involved in judo for me is part of being in a very tight team.

“Be it circuit training, randori, tournaments or gradings the focus is always on team involvement, team motivation and team spirit. We are lucky at our club to have this, and I’m very proud to have two members of Neyland Judo club to join me on the Three Peaks Challenge.

“The team spirit needed to complete the Three Peaks Challenge is the same team spirit needed within the sport of judo. I’m sure that this will drive us to complete the challenge.

“We are taking on the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The event was chosen as it is one of those ‘bucket list’ challenges that people get such a buzz from completing. For me this will be the third time I have lead a team onto the mountains and hopefully we will complete it within the 24 hours. The challenge tests your physical endurance, stamina, mental strength and as previously stated your ability to function as a team.”
