Next step on World Tour for Juniors and Cadets
The Junior and Cadet World Tours continue this weekend with competitions in Leibnitz, Austria and Coimbra, Portugal.
14 British judoka are in action at the Leibnitz Junior European Cup on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May with almost 600 athletes expected to compete.
Last year British judoka failed to medal with a number of fifth place finishes, however with nine of the team having medalled already this year on the Junior World Tour, the team will be confident of picking up results ahead of a busy few months of competition.
Acelya Toprak (-57kg), Lubjana Piovesana (-63kg) and Michelle Boyle (+78kg) go into the competition this weekend in solid form having each medalled at two competitions this year including in strong fields at the St Petersburg Junior European Cup and International Thuringia Cup.
Meanwhile on the men’s side of the Rhys Thompson (-100kg) and Wesley Greenidge (+100kg) are coming in off the back of silver and bronze medals at the La Coruna Junior European Cup last week and having medalled at the Coimbra Junior European Cup earlier this year.

Meanwhile 18 British Cadet judoka will be stepping on the mat in Portugal with a number of the team hoping to pick up valuable competition experience.
A number of the team have picked up results on the international circuit this year with three in Amy Platten (-44kg), Molly Harvey (-48kg) and Yasmin Javadian (-52kg) taking bronze medals earlier this month at the Cluj Napoca Cadet European Cup in Romania.
