NAIRNE CLAIMS 7TH ON OPENING DAY OF HUNGARY GRAND SLAM
On the opening day of the Hungary Grand Slam, Lele Nairne claims 7th place.
Lele Nairne competed today on the first day of the Hungary Grand Slam in the -57kg category. Nairne won her first-round contest after taking the fight into Golden Score against Chinese judoka Qianxi Linm. Having secured her place into the next round, Nairne was then up against Mariana De Carlvalho Vidal Reis Esteves in her second-round contest. Nairne dominated the contest throwing the Guinea judoka for ippon. She faced Rafaela Silva from Brazil in her quarter-finals round of the -57kg contest where her opponent Silva secured the win with an ippon score. She faced Timna Nelson Levy from Israel in the repechage where she was defeated by Levy after scoring an ippon.
Also competing today were Gregg Varey, Acelya Toprak, Dylan Munro and Chelsie Giles.
Gregg Varey competed in the -66kg category. After being drawn against Patryk Wawrzyczek from Poland, Varey was defeated in round one after an ippon score for the Polish judoka.
Acelya Toprak who also competed in the -57kg category alongside fellow GB judoka Nairne. Toprak was up against Mongolian judoka Munkhtsedev Ichinkhorloo in her first-round contest. Toprak managed to take Ichinkhorloo to golden score but picked up two shidos along the way. After 50 seconds of golden score time, Ichinkhorloo was awarded the win after Toprak was given a third shido.
Dylan Munro who was competing in the -60kg category was drawn against Temur Nozadz from Georgia in the first round. It was a short contest for Munro after his opponent Nozadz scored two waza-aris for ippon and took the win.
After a first-round bye, Chelsie Giles was up against Giulia Carna from Italty. Giles was handed two shidos and the contest went the distance however, a waza-ari for Carna meant defeat for Giles.
