On Sunday 20th January 2019 Littleport Judo club hosted the second of a series of Kata courses. The course was also a Coach Education revalidation event and was led by Kata Examiners – Dave Horton-Jones 7th Dan and Alec Edwards 5th Dan.

There were 15 attendees on the course and its success was due to the excellent organisation by the Littleport Club committee and coach Stuart Aldous.

Five Judoka passed the Level 1 exam for Nage No Kata Level 1 including two junior Judoka, Yonas Aldous and Louie Harrison, who provided a demonstration far higher than the pass mark required.

All on the course engaged fully in a tiring but enjoyable day with nine judoka going away to practice for their exam later in the year. Special thanks to course Francois and Chris who helped Alex as his Uke to provide a great course.

Chris passed his Kata exam at the end of the day and Francois is now preparing for his Level 2 exam. Stuart and Noah Aldous added to the family haul of kata certificates, passing their exams with flying colours, showing how practice yields the results.

Dave Horton-Jones, BJA Head of Grading, held a coaches’ forum at the end of the course demonstrating using a live internet feed how the new BJA Membership CRM worked “Welcome to the Dojo”.

All agreed this was an excellent tool to engage with the BJA membership and look forward to using it in their clubs. If you have not logged in go to the BJA website front page and if you have any difficulty email: thedojo@britishjudo.org.uk

Littleport Judo Club intend to run more Kata courses so please contact Dave Horton-Jones for information on these and any other BJA kata courses or look on the BJA events page
