Competition Controller

Competition Controller is the highest level of officiating offered by British Judo.

If you already hold a Senior Recorder qualification and want to manage competitions then this is the officiating role for you.

The training programme for Competition Controller builds on the elements learnt as a Senior Recorder and focuses on being able to handle all situations that may arise during the running of an event. This includes the organisation and handling of volunteers, planning and running the event and taking decisions in the best interests of all concerned.

On successful completion of the training programme candidates will be able to lead the running of major competitions.

What do you need before you can sign up?

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a current member of the British Judo Association. If the candidate is not a current member British Judo will issue an associate membership (valid for table officiating only). This will last for three years and can be renewed free of charge at the end of that time if the person is still active
  • Hold a Senior Recorder qualification and have been active at a minimum of 10 events over three years since qualification
  • Some experience working in competition control at an event
  • Good communication and ‘people skills’
  • Basic computer skills (ability to use word, emails and basic spreadsheets)

How do I apply?

There are four possible routes for nominating candidates to British Judo National Technical Officials Commissions (NTOC) for consideration:

  • Nomination from NTOC
  • Nomination from tutors
  • Nomination from Areas and Home Countries
  • Self-nomination (Send your CV by email to head office marked for the attention of NTOC)

NTOC will then consider selection for the programme. Selection is not guaranteed and will depend on activity, aptitude and places available.
