Escape from Tate-Shiho-Gatame using ‘Clamp and Roll’ Action

Step 1

First, clamp Uke’s upper body to your own by grabbing their belt and leg.

Step 2

Roll to your side.

Step 3

Continue rolling until you are between Uke’s legs.

O-Uchi-Gari

Step 1

Pull your partner’s lapel to get them to step forwards and lose balance.

Step 2

Hook your leg through Uke’s. The back of your leg should touch Uke’s calf.

Step 3

Reap your partner’s leg towards you, lifting their leg off the mat.

Step 4

Keep pushing backwards to throw Uke onto his back, allowing them to breakfall.

O-Uchi-Gari into Tate-Shiho-Gatame

Step 1

Start by throwing with O-Uchi-Gari.

Step 2

As Uke lands, keep control of the upper body.

Step 3

Place your legs either side of the body. Quickly moving into Tate-Shiho-Gatame.

Tate-Shiho-Gatame

Step 1

Kneel astride Uke. Push Uke’s arm up and across. Use your head to pin the trapped arm.

Step 2

Slide your other arm around Uke’s neck and hook your feet under Uke’s legs.

Turnover into Mune-Gatame

Step 1

Reach under Uke’s arm and grab their belt.

Step 2

Pull Uke’s arm upwards and turn your partner over until they roll onto their back.

Step 3

Finish the turnover holding with Mune-Gatame.
