Kami-Shiho-Gatame

Step 1

Kneel with your knees either side of Uke’s head. Reach under both arms and onto the belt.

Step 2

You can either keep your legs tucked up or straight out behind you.

Escape from Kami-Shiho-Gatame using Action and Re-Action

Step 1

To escape from Kami-Shiho-Gatame you can try to surprise your partner.

Step 2

First rock one way. When you feel Uke react, quickly switch direction.

Step 3

Then change direction again.

Step 4

Keep rolling Uke over until you have gained a hold down yourself.

Ippon-Seoi-Nage

Step 1

Pull your partner onto their toes and take a small step forward.

Step 2

Let go of your lapel grip and swing your arm under Uke’s bicep as you turn in.

Step 3

Bend your knees and then straighten them to lift Uke.

Step 4

Roll your partner over your hips and towards the mat in front of you.

Ippon-Seoi-Nage into Kami-Shiho-Gatame

Step 1

Begin by throwing with Ippon-Seoi-Nage.

Step 2

As Uke lands, stay near Uke’s head and go down on on knee, beside Uke’s head.

Step 3

Reach under Uke’s arms and control the upper body holding with Kami-Shiho-Gatame.

Turnover into Kuzure Kesa-Gatame

Step 1

This is a turn-over to do when uke is on all fours and you are kneeling to the side of your partner.

Step 2

Reach under your partner’s stomach with one arm.

Step 3

Reach under the neck with the other arm.

Step 4

Pull the arm towards you and at the same time push Uke over using your chest and other arm.

Step 5

Once Uke rolls over, move into Kesa-Gatame.
