Medals for TeamSOGB at 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles
On Wednesday TeamSOGB picked up three medals in the early stages of the judo event at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles.
The judoka were divided into preliminary groups to determine their balance, speed, agility and strength as well as equal weight before being placed into one of six pools that make up the judo competition at the Games.
Glaswegian Christopher Murphy and East Sussex’s Harry Farley each picked up a silver medal whilst Kathleen Inglis from Wallyford in East Lothian claimed a bronze.
28 year old Kathleen was first onto the tatami, beating her German opponent by ippon. Kathleen’s next opponent withdrew due to an earlier injury, giving Kathleen her second win in her pool, by default. Defeats to Monacan and Finnish opponents in her final two contests saw Kathleen take the bronze medal in third place.
Silver medallist Harry won three of his four fights in his pool, each with a signature Uchi Mata to score an ippon, but missed out on the gold medal following defeat by his Swedish opponent.
Despite losing his first fight, Christopher bounced back to beat his next two opponents to finish with a silver medal.
Elsewhere, North Shield’s Sarah Scott lost her first two fights before defeating her Swedish opponent via ippon in the best of the day’s action. Sarah lost her final contest to finish in 5th place.
TeamSOGB’s Holly Tadman is in action later today whilst Harry’s brother Thomas competes on Friday.
The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games is the sixth edition of the mutli-sport event which helps to unlock the power and potential of each individual athlete with a learning disability.
