McKenzie and Stewart transfer to Jamaica

British Judo can confirm that Ashley McKenzie (Club: Camberley JC; Coach: Luke Preston) and Max Stewart (Stewart Judo Academy; Dennis Stewart) have transferred to Jamaica and will represent the nation on the International Judo Tour with immediate effect.

Whilst competing for Great Britain, McKenzie (feature image) competed at three Olympic Games, making his debut at London 2012. Since then he has won two European bronze medals in 2013 and 2018.

Speaking of his time representing Great Britain, McKenzie said: “I am proud to have become a triple Olympian for Team GB, but I now wish to finish my competitive career representing the country of my fathers birth – Jamaica.”

Max Stewart is the son of -95kg Seoul Olympic bronze medallist Dennis Stewart and brother of Tokyo Paralympic Games -90kg silver medallist Elliot Stewart. Competing in the -90kg category, Stewart represented GB Judo at multiple World Tour events with his best result coming at the 2016 Qingdao Grand Prix where he won bronze.

British Judo thanks both Ashley and Max for their contributions and we all wish them the best with their future careers.
