Masters emerge victorious in European Championships

Congratulations to our illustrious Masters players who returned with a haul of medals for Great Britain at the recent European Veterans Championships.

In total Great Britain took two golds, four silvers and two bronzes. Both Kay Andrews (F5-78kg) and Sarah Hopkins (F4 -78kg) took gold medals.

Sarah, a three time European champion as well as a British, Commonwealth and World Masters Champion, retained her title European title from Paris last year. She said: “This time I felt quite nervous as it can get harder. Every time you go to a competition you don’t know what your up against with some unknown Russians and Germans. I felt really pleased to win my fights and we had so much support from the other players on the day, we are a great tight-knit network.”

Nicholas Kokotaylo (M6 -100 kg), Mark Teal (M4 -66 kg), Terry Watt (M8 -90 kg) and Joyce Malley (F5-63kg) took silver.

James Birnie (M7 -90 kg) and Daniel Harvey (M2 +100kg) both bounced to bronze.

There were placings for, Stan Cantrill (M8 -73 kg) 7th, Iain Kelly (M4 -90 kg) 9th and Liston Wingate-Denys (M5 -90 kg) 9th.
