Following the sudden passing of Knottingley Judo Club’s Head Coach Pete Simpson, the club will remember him by introducing a monthly award in his name.

The Pete Simpson Cup will be awarded to junior judoka who show exemplary judo etiquette, demonstrate correct wearing of judogi and zori and follow the coaches instructions.

The monthly winner will be presented with the award by the club chairman and will also receive a certificate.

Knottingley Judo Club hope the award can stimulate younger members and give each of them a monthly target to aim for.

Club coach and secretary Phil Taylor said: “We’re looking forward to introducing the award and our young judoka are very excited about winning the honour.”
