Judo launches new Post Graduate Diploma and Masters course
British Judo has launched the UK’s first judo related Post Graduate Diploma (PGdip) course specifically tailored to developing excellence and taking the sport to the highest level.
This brand new course, essentially a UKCC Level 4 course takes two years. It will welcome the first intake of students at Sheffield Hallam University from January.
Those on the course will also have the opportunity to extend it by one year and work towards gaining a Master’s Degree – MSc in Advanced Sport Coaching Practice.
It has been developed by British Judo in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and sports coach UK. It will be run by the university staff lecturers with input from the judo community.
The announcement comes less than two weeks after British Judo launched its new Centre of Excellence at the University of Wolverhampton.
Applications are being sought from individuals working at the higher end of British Judo’s coaching participation continuum.
The application process closes on Thursday 3 December and those successful will be invited to an interview on Thursday 12 December.
Following the successful implementation of the UKCC Level 3 Judo Performance Coach Award, British Judo has developed this course for those working regularly with performance and/or elite performance players.
Visionary
Ideally candidates will be visionary coaches who consider themselves to be highly driven individuals and who are committed to developing their coaching skill and the qualities of a master coach.
British Judo is looking for outstanding and knowledgeable students, willing to advance their own learning and that of others.
Candidates must have the ability to impact on judo performance while acting in all aspects of their coaching practice with professional standards.
Other minimum requirements for the course are that prospectivestudents must be 21 years or above and possess a 1st Dan or higher.
They should also have completed the BJA Level 3 Coaching qualification, and/or have a degree.
