Award Nomination Criteria

These awards and the nominations made by members, are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the individuals, groups and achievements in judo. All nominations are considered against the criteria listed below and our strategy. The vision for this Olympic and Paralympic cycle, has been to create a united judo community renowned for excellence and recognised for podium success. Maximising the contribution of judo to British society by providing easy access to safe and inspiring clubs, centred on the judo values.

When writing nominations please consider how the nominee has contributed to judo against the values of our sport and the five main goals of the association:

  1. Grow membership: to grow and diversify membership accross all UK regions
  2. Realise the benefits: to realise the physical and mental benefits of Judo throughout all member communities
  3. Achieve excellence at all levels: to achieve excellence at all levels from grassroots through to elite sport
  4. Achieve podium success: to achieve podium success in all age groups and elite competition
  5. Create and inspire a united community: to create and inspire a united community that embodies the core values of judo

The nominations are considered by the Rewards and Recognition Panel, for each of the awards listed below 3 nominees are selected as finallists, from the 3 nominee finallists one is presented with the award for that category.

Award Nomination Criteria:

Award Title Criteria Notes Regarding Nomination
Club Of The Year This award recognises a judo club that has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the sport by growing its membership, promoting the physical and mental benefits of judo, achieving excellence from grassroots to elite levels, fostering a united community, and embodying the core values of judo. Creating a safe, inspiring, and inclusive environment that contributes significantly to the judo community. The clubs nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Coach Of The Year This award honors a coach who has shown outstanding dedication to developing athletes at all levels. The nominee should have a proven track record of helping athletes achieve their best, from grassroots to elite competition, and demonstrate the core values of judo. Consider their impact on athlete growth, performance, and their contribution to a united judo community. The coaches nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Referee Of The Year This award is for a referee who has consistently demonstrated excellence in refereeing, fairness, integrity and development of new referees. The nominee should exemplify the values of respect, honesty, and courtesy, and contribute to the high standards of judo competition. Consider their commitment to upholding the rules and spirit of judo, as well as their impact on the judo community. The referees nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Official Of The Year This award recognises an technical official who has provided exceptional service to the sport of judo, in scoring, organising and development of new technical officials. The nominee should display a strong commitment to the scoring, administrative and organisational aspects of judo. Consider their contribution to the smooth running of events and their positive impact on the judo community. The officials nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Volunteer Of The Year This award honors a volunteer who has made a significant impact on the judo community through their selfless dedication and service. The nominee should demonstrate the core values of judo and contribute to the growth and success of judo clubs and events. Consider their commitment, enthusiasm, and the difference they have made within the judo community. The volunteers nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Young Volunteer Of The Year This award is for a young volunteer (under 25) who has shown outstanding dedication and commitment to supporting judo. The nominee should embody the core values of judo and contribute significantly to their club or the wider judo community. Consider their passion, initiative, and the positive impact they have made through their volunteer efforts. The young volunteers nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
The Kano Way Award This award celebrates an individual, group, or organisation that exemplifies the values and principles of Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo. The nominee should demonstrate excellence in promoting judo values, engagement in judo, fostering a united community, and contributing to the growth and development of judo. Consider their dedication to the philosophy and spirit of judo, and their positive influence on others. The individuals or groups nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
Inclusion Award This award recognises an individual, group, or organisation that has made significant efforts to promote inclusion and diversity within judo. The nominee should actively work to ensure that judo is accessible to all, regardless of background or ability, and embody the core values of judo. Consider their initiatives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that benefits the entire judo community. The individuals or groups nominated must be registered and valid with the British Judo Association or Affiliated governing bodies.
