Judo coaches, Joe and Nicole Nunn, and David Sommerville were recognised at the Sports Coach UK, UK Coaching Awards 2014 in Glasgow on 19th November. Coming out on top of tough competition for the Children’s Coach of the Year Award was Joe and Nicole Nunn of Bishops Stortford Judokwai, with JudoScotland coach, David Sommerville named as Commonwealth Games Coach of the Year.

Recognising the impact of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in a year in which Britain’s coaches also found success on the world stage, the judges introduced a new award this year. As head of the skilled team of coaches who helped the Scottish judo team towards 13 Commonwealth Games medals, David Somerville picked up the first Commonwealth Games Coach of the Year Award.

The awards ceremony, held at City Chambers, in Glasgow, celebrate the role and performances of coaching and coaches at every level, from community coaches to elite coaches. This weekend, judo’s own awards ceremony will be held to celebrate and recognise the achievements of club volunteers, coaches, referees, officials and athletes who have achieved so much over the past year.

Amongst the finalists were fellow judo coaches, John Cheeseman and Andrew Haffner, who lost out in the Community Coach of the Year Award to the winner, basketball coach, Chris Facey.
