It is with great sadness that after a short battle with cancer, Jean McNaughton passed away on Friday 18^th November 2016.

Jean was a valued and much loved member and club coach of Croydon Judo Club, who started Judo with her children, rising through the grades to be awarded 4^th Dan.

For some thirty years, from the 1970s to around 2000, Jean was the pre-eminent contact in organising British Judo competitions. All of the top competition organisers and technical officials we have today were either trained by Jean, or were trained by people who themselves were trained by Jean.

She also worked through the ranks of officials to become a very well respected National Competition Controller successfully running every level of event from Club, County, Area, National and International.

She retired from officiating after having led the organising teams that ran European and World Championships for the BJA ending with the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.

She leaves behin an extraordinary legacy to British Judo and a huge gap in the judo lives of all who knew her and we mourn her passing, and at the same time, we celebrate she gave us as a sport.
