Jayne takes Cadet European Cup Gold in Kiev
British Judo youngster, John Jayne, enjoyed a successful weekend taking gold in the Kiev European Cup for Cadets.
The -90kg fighter from Moberly Judo Club, was one of 11 English athletes to travel to the European event.
Jayne, 16, won all of his contests by ippon, defeating opposition from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, before beating another Ukrainian opponent, Oleksandr Logvinenko, on home soil to take gold.
Other notable performances saw Peter Miles get fifth in the men’s -55kg, Olivia Piechota take fifth place in the women’s -40kg category with Jodie Caller also taking fifth at -57kg.
Prisca Awiti-Alcaraz took fifth at -63kg with Lubjana Pievosana taking 7th in the same category.
Commenting on the display, Performance Director Nigel Donohue said: “This was an overall impressive performance in what is a strong Eastern European event.
“John showed great character to win the semi-final in the last few seconds and dominated the final to win his first Cadet European Cup Gold.
“Now the hard work continues to build on this performance and starts to prepare for the next event in 2 weeks time”
