Congratulations to Jason Moore (Aberdeen Judo Club) who was awarded an excellence award for his sporting achievements and services to police judo by the Police Sport UK commission at a special ceremony held in York on Wednesday 29^th March 2023.

This award is very rarely presented and is only given those to have given the most to their sport. Jason is a previous winner of the Scottish Police Sports Person of the year aware and is the current chairperson of the Scottish Police Judo section.

A lifelong judo player, Jason has a long list of achievements from both in and out of police sport.

Jason’s achievements in police judo are unsurpassed; he has been rarely defeated in British Police Judo since 2001 with over of 15 British Police titles (some events missed through work/family commitments), five appearances with several placings at the European Police Judo Championships (USPE) (only held every four years and usually includes many Olympic and World medallists) and World Police and Fire Games champion.

Jason is a stalwart of Scottish police judo with his enthusiasm and hard work ensuring that the Scottish contingent is usually the biggest at most police events.  He holds a position on the PSUK Judo committee, along with being their strength and conditioning coach and regularly takes sessions for police and civilians at training weekends at the Welsh Institute of Sport.

Despite being a full time police officer, husband, father and athlete, Jason is the lead coach of Aberdeen Judo and Turiff Judo clubs, which have both enjoyed a post-covid membership boost. Jason regularly visits other clubs in the North East of Scotland, leading their members through gradings and taking sessions. Whilst doing all of this, Jason also achieved a degree in teaching higher education.

Jason earned his 5^th Dan black belt in 2015 and has collected various national and international medals over the years including the Commonwealth Championships, British Master Open and European Veterans events. A current UKCC level 2 coach, Jason intends working towards his UKCC level 3 and British Judo Senior Examiner qualifications.

Jason lives and breathes judo, living by the ethics and values of judo’s moral code, Jason’s modesty means that he will probably never realise the significant impact that he has had on numerous judo players and people around the sport.
