Important changes to Coach Revalidation Requirements
As of 1st March 2015 the following changes to the coach revalidation requirements will come into effect:
First Aid requirements:
On first qualifying all coaches are required to attend a first aid course to attain a basic first aid award. This course must be a minimum of three hours and paediatric only focused courses cannot be accepted. For revalidation purposes they must do a refresher course to update their award every three years.
For revalidation we will now accept an online refresher training course every alternate revalidation period. This in effect means that coaches are only required to attend a first aid course once every six years.
Safeguarding requirements:
On first qualifying all coaches are required attend a safeguarding course to attain a safeguarding certificate. For revalidation purposes they must then update their certificate every three years.
For revalidation we will now accept an online refresher training course every alternate revalidation period. This in effect means that coaches are only required to attend a safeguarding course once every six years.
At this time we only accept the Sports Coach UK child protection online training which can be accessed using the following link: http://sportscoachuk.coachwisehub.com/store/28469-renewal-safeguarding-and-protecting-children?tab=1
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS):
We are working with United Medicare, our DBS system provider, to see how we can eliminate the need for coaches to send a copy of their DBS to the BJA. We will inform you when we have this system in place.
Online Training Platform
Currently we are working on developing our own online platform for the delivery of technical content and information to support the face-to-face delivery of some of our coach education courses and revalidation workshops. To make the coach revalidation process more efficient we are looking to put first aid and child protection training onto our online platform.
