There were a trio of British gold medallists at the 2016 Dutch Open G-Judo Championships on Saturday 5 November in Baarlo, Netherlands.
The competition, for Level 1 and 2 Special Needs judoka, saw over 30 of Europe’s top SN judoka in action on a great day’s judo.
Christopher Murphy had topped the podium the previous two years and he continued that run of form with another gold medal performance at -81kg. The 2015 Special Olympics silver medallist was in imperious form winning each of his contests by ippon including the final where he was too good for Andy Schoutens.
Thomas Mawsdley (-66kg) had just missed out on gold in 2015 but made for any disappointment with a good day’s judo seeing him take top spot. Fellow British judoka Ross Carswell also topped the medal rostrum with four wins at -90kg, all by ippon.
The three other members of the British team in Baarlo also found their way onto the medal rostrum in Dan Jeffries (-73kg), Stuart Jackman (-100kg) and David Woodland (+100kg). This was a second successive silver in this competition for Woodland while Jackman had moved down a weight after his bronze at +100kg last year.
