British Judo are delighted to announce that they will host a Junior European Cup in June at the home of the British Judo Centre of Excellence.
The Walsall Sports Centre, at the University of Wolverhampton, will play host to what promises to be a fantastic weekend of junior action on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2020.
In addition to the staging of the Junior European Cup, there will also be an EJU Junior Training Camp running on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th June giving some of the world’s top junior judoka the opportunity to train alongside the British Squad at the Centre of Excellence.
The IJF World Ranking Event adds to the growing list of top-level European and World judo competitions to be hosted in Britain during the current Olympic and Paralympic cycle which has already included the 2017 IBSA European Championships, the 2018 Veteran European Championships and the 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships.
British Judo Performance Director, Nigel Donohue said: “British Judo had some fantastic junior performances in 2019 which saw Kelly Petersen-Pollard crowned European Champion and Lachlan Moorhead and Yasmin Javadian both claim bronze medals, with Yasmin also claiming bronze at the European U23 Championships.”
“Having a competition of this magnitude in Britain is fantastic, not only for our Junior athletes, but our home coaches, parents, referees and officials. Historically athletes that become World and Olympic Champions all started their judo journey by medalling at EJU Junior Competitions, so having a competition like this on British soil will mean more British junior judoka are exposed to this quality of competition at home.”
