Gold in Ireland for GB Kata
A team of 3 British Judoka travelled to Dublin to compete in the All Ireland Kata Championships on Sunday 26th May.
Val Kelly, Michael Heller and Tony Prosser represented the High Wycombe Judo Centre Kata Team.
Val commented that this event was a very friendly and welcoming event, organised by Alan Martin (Head of the Dublin School of Judo) and Martin Savage, and provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our Kata, as well as receiving valuable coaching advice following each Kata.
Val and Tony won Gold in Ju-no Kata, Itsutsu no Kata and Gonosen no Kata, and won Silver in Goshin Jutsu. Michael and Tony won Gold in Katame no Kata and Kime no Kata.
Tony explained we are gradually developing our skills and knowledge of all Kata, with the support of Paul Jordan (Coach), Llyr Jones, Dave Horton-Jones and Nigel, George and the HWJC Team. to help enable coaching, mentoring and building of the next generation of Kata in the future.
This strong performance came on the back of Michael winning a hard fought Gold at the HWJC Masters, and the inspirational Val Kelly passing her Judo 5th Dan, to be awarded in October.
The Kata Team are starting to see the results of their hard work.
