We continue our series of players profiles for the 2016 Glasgow European Open with a look at players from the -100kg and +100kg weight categories.

-100kg

Philip Awiti-Alcaraz

Age: 23

Best Result: Bronze 2016 Budapest Grand Prix, Budapest, Hungary.

Awiti-Alcaraz is always a potential crowd pleaser with his ability to pull off some big throws. The Enfield judoka won silver in Glasgow last year and secured the biggest result of his career to date with his bronze in Budapest back in June.

Leonardo Goncalves

Age: 20

Best Result: Silver 2015 Junior World Championships, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Goncalves is another of the talented crop of Brazilian judoka selected for the Glasgow with an eye on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics in four years. Goncalves backed up his Junior World silver in the UAE with gold at the Junior PanAmericans this year.

+100kg

Wesley Greenidge

Age: 18

Best Result: Bronze 2016 La Coruna Junior European Cup, La Coruna, Spain.

Young British heavyweight Greenidge had the distinction of carrying the flag for TeamGB at the 2015 European Youth Olympic Festival and in his first year as a Junior in 2016 he has already medalled at two European Cups as well as a seventh place at the always high-class Berlin Junior European Cup

Jur Spijkers

Age: 19

Best Result: Gold 2014 Cadet European Championships, Athens, Greece; Gold 2016 Coimbra Junior European Cup, Coimbra, Portugal

Dutch heavyweight Spijkers will be one to watch in Glasgow. Still only 19 and with some good results at Junior level already, he could claim a scalp or two at the Emirates.

The 2016 Glasgow European Judo Open on 15th October 2016 at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow will be the British public’s first chance to watch some international judo after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
