External Facilities and Support

The Centre of Excellence works closely with the University of Wolverhampton Institute of Sport to provide additional support and services to the fighters and staff based on site.

This includes use of the sports facilities on the university campus including a sports centre gym – equipment includes a force platform and Kin-Com Isokinetic Dynamometer and a synthetic outdoor athletics track.

The team also have access to the HealthScan facility including a DEXA scanner and the sports science lab which provides important data for coaches, support staff and fighters.

A range of optional further and higher education opportunities are on offer from the ages of 16+ and by working closely with the University personalised educational support ensures that it complements fighters training and competition schedules.

Educational opportunities include the two-year Judo Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) for those aged 16-18, a Foundation Degree in Sport and Exercise and a wide selection of Undergraduate Degrees, including in Martial Arts Coaching, across the university’s eight academic schools.

There are also post-graduate courses for those aged 21 and above. These are complemented by professional qualifications and short courses which operate throughout the year.
