Four medals for British Judo at European Open in Austria

British Judo athletes took home four medals this weekend; three at the European Open in Austria and another at the cadet European Cup in Croatia over the weekend.

Olympic silver medallist Gemma Gibbons (-78kg) secured a bronze medal in Austria with a big ippon against Evelin Salanki of Hungary to finish the final day of the Oberwart Open for women.

Tokyo 2020 hopefuls Jemima Yeats-Brown and Amy Livesey also stood together on the -63kg podium after winning both bronzes on Saturday.

Their team mate Lucy Renshall secured seventh place in the same class.

Commonwealth bronze medallist Yeats-Brown won by a waza-ari against Szabina Gercsak of Hungary for bronze, while Livesey beat fellow Brit Renshall in the -63kg repechage for waza-ari before going on to claim the eventual bronze after the next opponent Nina Milosevic pulled out.

Meanwhile, over in Croatia, cadet star Olivia Piechota (-44kg) who is on the England programme, it was ippons all the way to the semi-final.

After losing to Daria Bilodid of Ukraine by two yukos, the Briton bounced back to beat Dominika Kincelova of Slovenia by a single shido for bronze.
