A coach revalidation event with guest judoka from around Wales, showcasing their skills that helped them achieve on the international stage and putting Welsh Judo on the map. The line up of outstanding Welsh Coaches is developing likely leading to an outstanding day in Celebration of Welsh Judo and the legacy left by Alan Petherbridge.
Alan Petherbridge MBE 9th Dan (09/10/1927- 30/07/2020). Alan competed in the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo, in the inaugural Olympic judo tournament, where he was captain of the British Judo Team.
At the 1962 European Judo Championships Alan won the open Weight Category in Essen Germany.
Aside from an outstanding international competitive career, Alan founded the Welsh Judo Association, (1966) when he realised the need for a National Governing Body in Wales. With the help of Charles Palmer, the BJA Chairman and IJF President this was made possible. In September 2010 Alan was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame, the first Martial Arts sportsman to receive the honour.
