Dowty Judo Club, based in Gloucester, has once again successfully retained the prestigious Clubmark Award. Founded some 40 years ago under the umbrella of the then Dowty Sports and Social Society, the club has had its own permanent dojo since 1981 on Down Hatherley Lane. 

Developed by Sport England, Clubmark is a national kite mark scheme across all sports, setting a benchmark of minimum operating standards. This involves a number of criteria points, including attendance of courses, writing a club development plan, having a trained Club Welfare Officer in post and codes of conduct. To achieve Clubmark, and to continually retain it is no mean feat and the club county and area should be proud of Dowty JC in doing so.

British Judo Service Manager Peter Beard commented, “The club has an excellent set up in terms of the facility, their governance and desire to develop and improve. My hat goes off to the dedicated volunteers that make it such a smooth operation, Pete and Chris Salter, Pete’s right hand man Don Quinn, the rest of the club’s coaches, and Brit Fox who was such a great help with the admin side of the Clubmark process.
