Dowty Judo Club Achieves ClubMark Status
Congratulations to the Dowty Judo Club who have just achieved their ClubMark status for 2017.
The Dowty Judo Club, located at the Dowty Sports & Social Ltd Staverton site near Gloucester, was formed some 50 years ago. The Club was originally located in part of the Staverton Cricket Pavilion, before it re-located to the main Clubhouse where it continued to operate until 1981.
This was a significant date in the history of the Club, as it was at this time when the Club moved into its own purpose built Dojo with a permanent mat area. The Dojo was entirely a self-help project undertaken by the Judo Club members, and with the help of a loan from the then Messier-Dowty, a building was located near Glouceste which at the time served as a Gym for a local weightlifting Club.
The building was dismantled, transported to the Staverton site, and over a six month period was re-erected and became the new home of the Dowty Judo Club, from where it operates to this day.
During the years that the Club has operated from its own Dojo, it has built an excellent reputation within the Judo world both at Area and National level, producing Players who have been consistently successful at Junior, Senior and Veteran’s level, with National Junior and Schoolboy Champions, National Police Champions, along with West of England Champions at both Junior and Senior level. Within the Grading structure of the British Judo Association, the Club has produced over the last 35 years in excess of 75 Dan Grades at various levels, and in 2007, the Club was awarded the Sport England Club Mark Bronze award, which it has recently re-validated.
The Club has within its ranks, three Senior Club Coaches, three Club Coaches, one UKCC level one Coach, and two recently qualified Instructors.
The Club caters for Junior and Senior Players for both the competitively minded and recreational judoka, and for more information visit the Club website at http://www.dowtyjudoclub.co.uk or call 01452 610401
