Commonwealth medallists who are based at the British Judo Centre of Excellence in Walsall are looking forward to returning to Scotland to showcase their judo at the Glasgow European Open.

The women only event takes place on Saturday 4th October 2014 and will be a chance to see Commonwealth Champion Nekoda Davis, silver medallist Jodie Myers and bronze medallist Jemima Yeats-Brown back in action at the Emirates Arena.

Nekoda, originally from Ealing, who now trains full time in Walsall, said: “I am looking forward to this European Open, I have my sights on winning gold with an all round good performance trying some new things I have been working on. This could be a successful block of competitions for me with Tallinn European Open in Estonia, the Glasgow European Open in Great Britain and the Kazakhstan Grand Prix in the weekends after so I am just excited to get out there.”

Jodie, who hails from Moreton in the Wirall and whose home club is S.K.K but is studying at the University of Wolverhampton in Walsall added: “I really want to medal, but I am still a junior and I still have another year, so going into a European cup is going to be a big deal.”

Jemima, trains full time at the Centre and Ryecroft Judo Club in Nottingham and said “I think it would be great to fight against a Japanese fighter and see how I do against them.

“Obviously, you fight a lot of European players with all the European Cups going on, so to fight someone from Japan would be a great experience. When I was at the Commonwealth Games the crowd was amazing, it will be great to have their support for the GB team at the European Open.”

The trio are among four 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games champions, four silver and three bronze medallists, all from Great Britain. Competing against the strong British team will be players from around the globe including European, World and Olympic medalists. All in all there will be around 17 nations competing in the hope of taking medals and gaining valuable world ranking points for Rio 2016.

Three more S.K.K judoka who are also attached to the Centre of Excellence will be in action; including Lucy Renshall and the Livesey sisters Amy and Bekky – the latter who took a fifth at the European Championships.

The European Open Judo is a partnership between Glasgow Life, British Judo, Judo Scotland and Event Scotland.
